Even though flowers have been recognized globally as décor elements or as symbols of affection, they also have health benefits that prove that the 1960s Flower Power movement was onto something.

To start, having flowers around the house is a great idea for those days when we’re feeling a bit under the weather. Although they aren’t exactly Nyquil, they help with dry skin, throat, and cough, especially during the winter months when there’s little to no humidity in the environment. Flowers add moisture to the air, so they help prevent or at least shorten the symptoms of the common cold.

At the most basic level, flowers are also great mood boosters for those days when we’re feeling the blues. Flowers smell and look good, so it’s been scientifically proven that those two factors help improve anyone’s mood on any given day!

In addition to helping us get through the Sunday Scaries or relieving the common cold, flowers can also help boost our brain cells! Plants and flowers oxygenate the air we breathe, so the more, the merrier – and the better brain cells.

As if these facts were not enough to have flowers around us all the time, they can also help us relax and increase our energy level at the same time. But how? The scent of flowers has been proven to aid in relaxation while having fresh flowers with bold colors can give us an energy boost if needed.

Bottom line – we need flowers to live.
